Theatre Ideas: Read You Some Tony Adams

I can't say it better - actors need to get their butts off the stage and into the marketing office and the scene shop and go begging for props, then maybe they would understand that theatre doesn't exist solely for their creative indulgence.

I still think we're way ahead of the curve at Grinder, but it looks like others are waking up to the new reality as well. This has lots of bearing on The Naked Theatre.

i've always believed that everyone should have done every piece of a production at some point in some way.

run light, do props, ASM, produce, build sets, act, put up posters, solicit media, all of it.

all too often small theatre productions seem to suffer from the (very wrong) theory 'if you build it, they will come'.

but, as important as it is for an actor to have done other roles in tech and production, it is also useful for tech folks to have been on stage for a bit. both sides are vital. both are hard. they're different, but one is not better than the other. the number of people who don't seem to get that is astounding.
