Shining Stars

It is my great pleasure to announce that Grinder Productions, in association with Creative Connector and Réseau SPARC Network, is presenting this free concert featuring Kara Shaw and other artists with disabilities at the Fergus Grand Theatre on Sunday, November 15th at 2pm.

The concert is taking place thanks to Creative Connector. In 2024 the organization launched a program called The Access Playbook, a Deaf and Disability-led learning program for arts presenters and organizations. I was lucky enough to participate in the pilot cohort, helping to test out and refine the playbook’s delivery. As a result of that participation I was given the opportunity to program an event featuring artists with disabilities in my community. And here we are!

One of the first things I learned in the Access Playbook project was that the words "Deaf" and "Disabled" are not derogatory terms. They are words that have been reclaimed by the Deaf and Disability community, and are more appropriate than terms like "differently-abled." That's just one of many things that I learned from participating in the program, and I'm thrilled that I get the chance to apply these teachings in a real-world setting by bringing this show to the stage. For the next five days I'm going to devote a blog post to introducing each of the performers in the concert, so you can get to know a bit more about them.

I hope you can join us. Admission is free, but donations to the Centre Wellington Food Bank are graciously accepted.
